Sedecordle with 9-letter words

This variation uses 9-letter words instead of five. Longer words give more letters per guess but are harder to pin down, while shorter words leave fewer clues per guess. You still have 21 guesses for 16 boards.

Variations are practice games, so you can play as many as you like. Switch the mode to try Sedec-order or Savior with 9-letter words too.

9-letter Sedecordle in numbers

Every figure here is counted from the 9-letter word lists this game uses, so it describes the words you can actually get.

  • 2,000 common words can be answers, and 25,355 words are accepted as guesses.
  • Letters found in the most answers: E (72%), I (61%), R (59%), T (57%), A (56%).
  • 89% of the answers repeat a letter, so a green or yellow tile can still hide a second copy.
  • Best single opening words: CREMATION, MISCREANT, COASTLINE, TENACIOUS, FORNICATE. CREMATION colors 4.7 tiles on an average board.
  • Opening with CREMATION, PUBLISHED reveals 6.6 letters of a typical answer, and three or more letters on 100% of the boards.

Frequently asked questions

How many guesses do you get with 9-letter words?

You still get 21 guesses for 16 boards with 9-letter words, exactly as in the classic five-letter game. Sedec-order adds two extra guesses and Savior includes four ready-made guesses, just like with five letters. Only the word length changes, so you can compare your results across different lengths.

Is 9-letter Sedecordle harder than five letters?

It depends on how you play. Longer words reveal more letters with every guess, but there are more possible words to sort through. Shorter words give fewer clues per guess, and many of them look alike. Most players find the two extremes, four and eleven letters, the hardest to finish.

Is there a daily 9-letter Sedecordle?

No. Word-length variations are practice games, so you can play as many as you like with new words every time. The daily puzzles use five-letter words. Your 9-letter results are saved as separate practice statistics, so they never affect your daily streak or your five-letter record.

Where do the 9-letter words come from?

The answers are common 9-letter words, chosen by how often they appear in film and TV subtitles, with offensive words removed. The list of accepted guesses is much larger and comes from open-source spelling dictionaries, so most real words you type are accepted even if they never appear as answers.

Can I play Sedec-order or Savior with 9-letter words?

Yes. Use the mode buttons above the boards to switch this page to Sedec-order or Savior, and the word length stays at 9 letters. Each combination of length and mode keeps its own practice statistics, so you can follow your progress in every version of the game separately.

How to play

Find 16 hidden words at the same time. You have 21 guesses.

Each guess is played on every board that isn't solved yet, and each board colors it against its own word:

W Right letter, right spot
O In the word, wrong spot
R Not in the word

A solved board stops taking guesses. Keys on the keyboard show a 4×4 map with one square for each board.

Sedec-order opens the boards one at a time (23 guesses). Savior starts you off with 4 guesses already played.
