What is Sedecordle?

Sedecordle is Wordle with sixteen boards. Every word you type is played on all sixteen boards at once, and each board colors the letters against its own hidden word. You have 21 guesses to find all sixteen. The name comes from the Latin sedecim, which means sixteen.

A new daily puzzle starts at midnight in your time zone, and it is the same for everybody, so you can compare scores with friends. If one puzzle a day isn't enough, practice mode gives you as many new games as you want.

How a guess works

Type any real five-letter word and press Enter. A green tile means the letter is in the right spot, yellow means the word has that letter somewhere else, and gray means the letter isn't in that board's word. When you guess a board's word exactly, the board is solved and stops taking guesses.

The on-screen keyboard is split into sixteen tiny squares per key, one for each board, so you can see at a glance which boards still need a letter.

Tips for 16 boards

  • Use your first three or four guesses on words with different common letters, such as AROSE, UNLIT, DUCHY, GIMPY. They tell you something about every board.
  • Solve a board as soon as you're sure of it. Every solved board is one fewer board to think about, and the guess still gives clues to the others.
  • Look for boards with only one or two possible words left, and save the hard boards for later. Late guesses carry more information.
  • Watch the guess counter: you have five spare guesses beyond the sixteen you need.

More ways to play

Sedec-order opens one board at a time. Savior gives you a head start with four guesses already played. Variations let you play with words from 4 to 11 letters, and the archive has every past daily puzzle. You can also make a custom game with your own sixteen words and send it to friends.

Frequently asked questions

How many guesses do you get in Sedecordle?

You get 21 guesses to solve all 16 boards, so there are five spare guesses beyond the sixteen you need at minimum. Every guess is played on every board that is still unsolved. Sedec-order gives you 23 guesses because boards open one at a time, and Savior counts its four ready-made guesses inside the 21.

When does the daily Sedecordle reset?

The daily puzzle changes at midnight in your own time zone, so everyone gets a new puzzle when their day starts. Each language has its own daily puzzle, and every player in that language gets the same sixteen words. A countdown on the end screen shows exactly how long you have to wait.

What is the difference between Sedecordle and Octordle?

Octordle has eight boards and 13 guesses, while Sedecordle doubles it to sixteen boards and 21 guesses. Because you have fewer spare guesses per board, Sedecordle rewards careful opening words and planning more than speed. Both games use the same Wordle colors, and both have daily and practice puzzles.

What do the green, yellow and gray tiles mean?

Green means the letter is in the word and in the right spot. Yellow means the word has that letter, but in a different position. Gray means the letter is not in that board's word, or not as many times as you typed it. Each board colors your guess against its own word.

Is Sedecordle free, and do I need an account?

Sedecordle Wordle is completely free and there is no sign-up. Your games, streaks and settings are saved in your browser on your own device, never on our servers. If you change phones or browsers, use Export stats in Settings and import the file on the new device.

Can I play yesterday's or older Sedecordle puzzles?

Yes. The archive lists every daily puzzle since the first one, with a calendar and a full list of dates. Pick any day to play Classic, Sedec-order or Savior. Archive games have their own statistics, so they never change your daily streak, and each day also has its own answers page.

What is a good starting word for Sedecordle?

Start with words that use common letters and no repeats, and spend your first three or four guesses covering as many different letters as possible. In English, AROSE, UNLIT, DUCHY, GIMPY make a strong opening set. After those guesses, most boards have only a handful of possible words left to choose from.

How to play

Find 16 hidden words at the same time. You have 21 guesses.

Each guess is played on every board that isn't solved yet, and each board colors it against its own word:

W Right letter, right spot
O In the word, wrong spot
R Not in the word

A solved board stops taking guesses. Keys on the keyboard show a 4×4 map with one square for each board.

Sedec-order opens the boards one at a time (23 guesses). Savior starts you off with 4 guesses already played.
